UGC pay scales for State Lecturers:

University and college teachers in Karnataka will get revised University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scales. The retirement age for university teachers is raised from 60 to 62 years. The pay revision along the lines of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations will benefit an estimated 18,630 university and college teachers. The beneficiaries of the retirement age enhancement will, however, be much less. Announcing the Cabinet decisions, Home Minister V S Acharya said the revised pay scales for teachers would be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1, 2006. The hike for teachers will range between Rs 10,000 and Rs 35,000 per month depending on the seniority and the positions they hold. The Cabinet also met the long-pending demands of junior doctors, who had threatened to go on indefinite strike. Nearly 4,000 doctors are employed with the health department. Lecturers and professors gets rich

The Cabinet ratified the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission with minor modifications. The jump in pay is expected to be upwards of 30 per cent after taxes. The system of four Pay Bands with 20 Grade Pays recommended by the commission has been accepted. The median salary for central government employees in India currently stands at Rs 250,092 per annum, while that of private sector companies at Rs 408,605. It is expected that the figure for government employees will rise to Rs 352,611 — which would leave a small gap of Rs 50,000 compared to the private sector. However, as in the past, post pay commission most private sector companies revise their pay scales upwards which further increases this ever widening gap. Research funding is a term generally covering any funding for scientific research, in the areas of both "hard" science and technology and social science. The term often connotes funding obtained through a competitive process, in which potential research projects are evaluated and only the most promising receive funding. Such processes, which are run by government, corporations or foundations, allocate scarce funds. Total research funding in most developed countries is between 1.5% and 3% of GDP; Sweden is the only country to exceed 4% [1]. Hypothesis

A hypothesis (from Greek ὑπόθεσις) consists either of a suggested explanation for an observable phenomenon or of a reasoned proposal predicting a possible causal correlation among multiple phenomena. The term derives from the Greek, hypotithenai meaning "to put under" or "to suppose." The scientific method requires that one can test a scientific hypothesis. Scientists generally base such hypotheses on previous observations or on extensions of scientific theories. Even though the words "hypothesis" and "theory" are often used synonymously in common and informal usage, a scientific hypothesis is not the same as a scientific theory. Research methods
